I think inforgraphics are kind of restricted to showing data/numbers in a in a visual that is as is, whereas Data Viz is more focused on trying to give insights.

Here are 2 visuals (yes, i have googled them and they are not showing the same data) that are giving information, but as you can see infographics traditionally have been static and just give you certain number with a bit of explanation. Where as, Data Viz can provide much more detail and is better organized.

I am not denying that infographics cannot be created in PBI, but I think it's potential lies more towards traditional graphs and charts.
Also, it will be a lot of work creating infographics in PBI.

So as I said there is a subtle difference between the 2.

Please correct me if I am wrong or if you have any further information I would really like to enhance my knowledge.

Power BI's actual potential does not lie with infographics but​​ data visualization.
There is a very subtle difference between the 2.

However, there are certain custom visuals which can help you create infographics and you can find and import them from the Marketplace.

My suggestion would be try starting with the built-in visualizations and then once you get a hang of it, you can start exploring the marketplace.
MS has a Power BI channel on youtube where you can find tutorial videos to get you start with PBI and how to create data visualizations.

You can even create your own custom visuals if you know how to code.
MS had a tutorial session in the Business Applications Summit about it, if you like, I can share the youtube link with you.
